Conservation
Our Conservation Team is led by Sgt. Samal Kimorgo, known locally as Kilo 1 (left of picture). Working with him are 26 Rangers responsible for protecting the conserved area of 20,000 acres of spectacular landscape replete with the endangered African wild dog, greater kudu, leopard and elephant.
Education
Our Head Teachers are Paul Ndungu (Kimanjo Secondary School), Daniel Monto (Kimanjo Primary School), Francis Legei (Ngabolo Primary School), Agnes Santa (Naiperere Primary School), Agnes Mosiany (Musul Primary School), and John Letimalo (Raap Primary School). Their 52 teaching and ancillary staff educate and look after over 1500 children age 3 to 18.
Healthcare
Our medical team, led by Senior Nurse Stephen Njoroge, and assisted by Sisters Joyce and Rosemary based at Kimanjo Clinic is 27 Community Health Workers who furiously pedal the area on their bicycles to take health advice to homes and report back to the Clinic on health problems needing Clinic or home-based treatment from a Nurse. Joseph Makesen and Kimani Ndirangu are drivers of the Mobile Clinic. Joseph also acts as administrator of the prescription food programme for people on ARVs and their families.
Enterprise
The two most important planks of the local economy are Livestock and Tourism. Livestock are family-owned but their movements and grazing patterns are supervised by Grazing Committees.
The largest tourism operation is community-owned The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille. The Sanctuary is managed under long-term contract by Regenesis Limited, a conservation tourism company. Gill Elias is the General Manager. Augustine Mulei is Head Chef, Stephen Mukabi is Head Butler and in charge of all Guest Services, and Richard Kinyua is Maintenance Manager with responsibility for all infrastructure and logistics. Along with 23 wonderful staff they continue to delight guests at one of Kenya's premier tourism destinations.
Women's Groups run an egg production project, a microfinance institution, and a living museum of Maasai life. Entrepreneurial individuals are engaged in the supply of milk and meat. There are many more opportunities we would like to be able to support - and we can - with YOUR help.
Trustees
The (entirely voluntary) Trust are John Elias (CEO of Regenesis) formerly a director of global chemical companies, his wife Gill previously a lawyer and teacher, his sister Jane Elias who is a senior manager at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, and Mike Kyne, Managing Director of Lindare Medical, a specialist orthopaedic surgery equipment supplier. John and Gill live at Kijabe Group Ranch and Jane and Mike are resident in the UK.
With Tess having finished her Master's in development management, and Tom completed first year medical school, both John & Gill's children are highly committed to the project, the ethos, and the area, and are deeply involved in networking the project in the UK, helping with the techie stuff, and organising events and fundraising. Tess has also contributed to proposal writing and project planning.
The Trust restricts its administrative costs to a maximum of 15% of donations. You can be assured therefore that 85% of your gift actually results in a community benefit. This policy is largely unmatched by other charities.
The Trustees are determined, with YOUR help to make a very deep, lasting and sensitive impression in a small place which will positively impact the lives and livelihoods of a traditional but dynamic people.
